How to save the free nutrition facts panel?

A number of users of the free nutrition facts labeling tool have asked me how to save the created panels.

If you would like to incorporate the nutrition facts panel to another document, the best way is probably to print it to pdf format. You can then open the file in Acrobat Reader or another software that reads pdf files and from there cut & paste it or use it in any other way. This is a better solution than taking a screenshot, as you won’t lose in resolution.

If you work on a Macintosh, the “Print to pdf” function is built-in. On Windows, a number of free (and not free) tools will allow you to do that. For example, see the list of pdf software on Wikipedia.

If you want to share the way you are using the free tool to create nutrition facts panels, leave a comment below.

Is there a way to incorporate the list of ingredients to the nutrition facts labels?

  2. John Smith says:

    Potassium does not show up.

  3. Discourage user says:

I have tried to create the label numerous of times and says bad format for Vitamin A

  4. Eric Amodeo says:

Once the label shows up you can use the “Snipping Tool” from Microsoft. It allows you to select a rectangular box and save whatever is in it as an image file. Search google for it.

  5. Discouraged user: this can happen if you have used the back button of your browser. It is just a display problem. You can fix it easily by switching the display once between “actual value” and “percent”, and back.

    oput

  8. Oput,

You could try the snipping tool (see a few comments above) and add the nutrition panel to word in image form.

  9. Kisha says:

Is there a way to incorporate the list of ingredients to the nutrition facts labels?

  10. Kisha,

Not at the time being, but I will add this feature as time allows.

Here’s another vote for a way to incorporate a list of ingredients AND it would be delightful to have a suggestion for software to help print/layout a sheet of labels. Trying to customize labels in MS Word is mind-bending and terribly aggravating…

  12. Matt says:

Votes for the ability to include the name of the recipe, list the ingredients, and to save data label as jpg.

    • Being able to save the label as a jpeg would be great
I’m using it to create the Nutritional labels for my products
But have no way to save it, to paste it into the packages I’m creating!!

  13. shannon says:

another vote for being able to convert the label into a jpg. print to pdf is not in my vocabulary…. thanks for having this available!

  14. Prachi says:

wow this saved me from making a nutrition info label by hand but now i cant save it because my word is currently not working….:( (pouty face) why do i have to make a nutrition label for a math project anyway?..

  15. Mike says:

Nice job. Would be interested in a lightweight desktop or web app that would create labels for spice blends.

  16. frustrated says:

everytime i try to create the labe it says The following parameter is empty or badly formatted: Serving size in gram or mL, although i have made labels in the past

  17. confusedd :S says:

How can I use the snipping tool??
It would be very helpfull to me!!

  18. steveo says:

how do i make it bilingual?

  19. Cumin & Clove says:

Is there a way to add ingredient list, allergent information below the Nutrition Facts

  20. Clumsy says:

Now the only thing I need to know is how to drag the picture itself onto Microsoft Word on a Mac. How do you blow the image up once (and if) you get it onto Microsoft Word in picture form?

  21. Laura says:

This is a great app and thank you for sharing it!! I am still experimenting with it so far, but it would be good to have capability to also select “about” for
Servings per Container, that didn’t seem an option yet.
This still beats trying to mock a NF panel up in Excel, then passing on the FDA specifications to our graphics guy for him to try to format!
    Thanks very much!

  22. Glenn Worthman says:

I’ve been using a nice little free program called Screen Grab Pro for years.

From CNet: “Screen Grab Pro is a screen capture tool. It features one click grab of any screen for ease of use, timer operation, instant grab of any region, save JPEG, hotkey in any window, current window selection list. Screen Grab Pro copies a Bitmap to clipboard ready for pasting in your favorite picture editor. Version 1.5 adds Windows Vista support.”

  23. KNEETOEG says:

Thank you for this tool. I do have a special project that has many of the facts in mg instead of grams so the label is not turning out correct. Is there an option for that? The serving size is only 20 grams……Example: my Cargs are 40 milligrams and not grams…. if I use a .4 entry the default is zero.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks again.

  24. Frustrated as well – get the message below
everytime i try to create the labe it says The following parameter is empty or badly formatted

  25. Mathilde says:

    Pauline,
Can you give me exactly the parameters you are inputting, so that I can reproduce the problem? I cannot fix a problem if I cannot reproduce it.

  26. Mathilde says:

    KNEETOEG,
The labels are formatted according to the guidelines of the FDA. The FDA has very strict rules on how the values have to be rounded.
If you want to create a label for an other purpose than labeling a product and don’t need to follow FDA rules, this is not the correct tool for you.

  27. Is there a place on your site I can see the full list of functions for Shop’NCook Pro?

  28. Faigy says:

I have a small candy store and needed some nutrition information for my platters that I make. This was a total life save!
    thank you soooo much!
    Faigy

  29. Mathilde says:

    Terry,

You can find a list of functions for Shop’NCook Pro and comparison with the other editions at http://www.shopncook.com/compare.html

  30. sandy says:

Is there as way to transfer the nutrient analysis of a recipe into a food label?

    • Mathilde says:

      Sandy,
A new version of Shop’NCook Pro will be published soon that will allow to create directly nutritional labels within the software. Meanwhile, you have to transfer the information manually…

  31. Dale says:

Great website thanks for doing this

  32. Meredith says:

Great tool! Thanks so much for generously sharing it. I’m using it for a research project that involves formulating a healthy food product and designing its package complete with nutrition labels.

Windows users: “Snipping Tool” works great and is very simple to use–I believe it’s a free download online. Just open the Snipping Tool program and drag the cursor around what you’d like to capture. (Kind of like doing a photo crop.) Save the capture and you’re done!

  33. Jordan says:

Windows users click the prt screen button on your keyboard. Open up MS paint and past the image, highlight the food chart, copy, new paint project, paste, and then you’re done.

Mac users, command+ shift+ 4 and select the food chart.

had to do this for bio, didn’t have to make one but didn’t feel like scanning the nutrition facts.

  34. millie says:

you can also hold the “ctrl” button at the same time hold the “prt sc” button, open microsoft paint, then “ctrl+v” and save as a jpeg. much easier.

  35. Alina says:

The easiest way to print any document in PDF:
I just downloaded my FREE 45 days trial, while browsing, I found this blog.
I hope it will resole printing issues.
It’s called “Perfect PDF Creator”. This software is available in every store, Office Depot, etc. and on Cosmi.com. I paid $9.99 a while ago.
After installing on computer , it will be in Printers Folder.
By pressing “PRINT” you’ll have option to choose a printer, instead of using your printer, choose Perfect PDF Creator.
It will instantly convert any printable document into the .PDF, then save it
and print as many copies you need and at any time. It has been my useful tool for many years already. Check their web site http://www.Cosmi.com, They also have Print Perfect Gold DVD,which is unknown to me, but it offers document conversion into webpage or E-Card.
I’m not an Affiliate or any promoter of Cosmi.com.
I just thought of Mathilde and your happy users and wish to suggest this sample tool. In the meantime I have a lot to learn… Thank you for my free trial.

  36. SANDRA says:

I couldn’t make my own label I guess is because its in mg

  37. Kathleen Kennedy says:

My 8th grade nutrition class is doing a food production unit. This label program is fantastic for them to create the nutrition facts label for the product they will be seling in the concession stand. Thank you so much :-)

  38. Maya says:

Wonderful tool. Thank you so much! Any reason Potassium is missing? Is it not within the FDA guidelines? Can Potassium be added to the label? Any ideas would be much appreciated :) Thanks again!

  39. Noni says:

How can I save or copy it into my food label?

  40. k khan says:

this is a great site really appreciate for having this available.
