From a recipe to a grocery list on your iPhone

I have put together the video below to illustrate the steps from finding a recipe on the internet to having a store-ready grocery list on your iPhone.

And YES, you can send your grocery lists to your iPhone with Shop’NCook – a question I get often. I’ll write more about the iPhone in a future post.

Don’t just watch the video: download the software if you haven’t already – it’s free for a 45-day trial – and go through the steps. See for yourself how easy it is to plan your meals.

I hope you like it! After trying it, I’d love it if you let me know how you did in the comments below.

You Rock! It took me a few tweaks to make it work. You posted a post back in 2007 regarding gmail that concisely gave exactly the information needed, and it might help to link to that post here http://www.shopncook.com/blog/sending-recipes-by-e-mail-one-size-fits-all/ Although I had entered it correctly, it didn’t work on the first go-round for some reason and I tried some other settings and ended up back at your post and it worked! I love it!!!!

Diane, thank you for your comment. I have written a new post today at http://www.shopncook.com/blog/sending-your-grocery-list-to-your-phone-e-mail-settings/ that describes the e-mail settings for some main providers. It’s probably the best place to start.
Shop’NCook needs to be restarted after changing the e-mail settings – it’s maybe why you couldn’t make it work the first time around.

  3. […] iPhone is a great and environmentally-friendly way to take your grocery list to the store. I want to create a Shop’NCook app for iPhone that lets you access your shopping list, but […]

  4. Jim says:

How does the system down load groceries and prices from a supplier? I assume you can create your own recipes?

  5. Jim says:

Can the program create an inventory as well as for liquor?

  6. Caro says:

is there an iphone app that I need to get in order to download the list?

  7. Mathilde says:

    Caro,

You don’t need a special app to read the list if you send it by e-mail.

If you are using the new function “Upload to Direct Access” in the shopping list panel, you will need the Shop’NCook Lite app to read it. But… Shop’NCook Lite has not yet been updated to read the shopping list. I am working on it and the updated app should be available relatively soon (hopefully in a few weeks).

Meanwhile, I recommend you to continue using e-mail to send your shopping list to your iPhone.

  9. Mathilde says:

    Allan,

Yes, you can easily enter your own recipes – you just need to type them in. Go to http://www.shopncook.com/downloadMenu.html to download a free 45-day trial and see for yourself.

Where is the sound? I don’t find this video helpful at all without the verbal instructions.

  11. Andrea Goldsmith says:

I uploaded my shopping list from the ShopNCook Menu software on my PC using the synchronization feature. Does the Shop’NCook Lite – Iphone application have the ability to access the shopping list? I tried the synchronization on the Iphone from the Shopping list screen and received an error message – The shopping list could not be retrieved.

    • Mathilde says:

      Andrea,

The iPhone application does not yet have the possibility to access the synchronized recipes and shopping list. Instead, to transfer your shopping list to the iPhone, use the “Send to Direct Access” button on the toolbar of the shopping list panel.

  12. Gail says:

I want software to create a shopping list for my market (s), according to aisle #’s. Just want to use it on my P C and print it out…will this program do that? I use Windows 7.
    thanks….

    • Mathilde says:

      Gail,

Yes, absolutely. Shop’NCook Menu allows you to create a “supermarket” for each of your market and organize them per aisle. When you make a shopping list, you can select the market(s) where you want to shop and print a shopping list sorted by aisles.

Are the food items and costs already entered or do they have to be enetered manually. If they are already in, where do they draw the prices from, Canada or US?

  14. Barb says:

I have a lot of recipes that I don’t want to have to type in. Is it possible to scan and paste them into this program?

  15. Mathilde says:

    Barb,
Yes, you can add scanned recipes to the software. After scanning your recipes to a pdf file, open the pdf and use the text tool to select the text content of the file. Copy it then to the clipboard and add it to Shop’NCook by clicking on the clip button.

Are you planning an Android App any time soon? I like the software but really want to be able to access it from my phone.

    • Mathilde says:

      Susan,

I have actually already made an app that runs on Android, but I need to make it prettier (it is really ugly) and optimize it for Android’s screen. If you would be interested to participate in the beta testing, send me an e-mail and I will contact you when it is ready.
