Recipes - CookbooksRecipes are organized in cookbooks. Cookbooks can be locked or unlocked. Recipes in an unlocked cookbook can be edited and freely exported, e-mailed or printed. A locked cookbook cannot be modified and some access restrictions can be set by the author of the cookbook, like request a password to unlock the cookbook, and limit the number of recipes that can be accessed at one time. Locked cookbook are contained in a single file and are the best way to share collections of recipes. The free software Shop'NCook Cookbook Reader can be downloaded to read locked cookbooks.The cookbooks can be viewed in two modes, the Category and Chapter modes. In Category mode, the recipes are listed by alphabetical order. You can select the recipes belonging to a category by selecting the category name in the category pul-down menu of the toolbar. In the Chapter mode, the recipes are listed in the order of the chapters. The recipes belonging to a chapter are displayed by selecting the chapter name in the chapter pull-down menu of the toolbar. You can switch between Category and Chapter modes by selecting the Chapter/Category mode of the Tools menu. In Chapter mode, only the recipes that have been added to a chapter are displayed. If no chapters have been defined, the list of recipes will be empty when you switch to Chapter mode. If all the recipes of a cookbook have been organized in chapters, the cookbook will be displayed by default in Chapter mode, and otherwise in Category mode. The Cookbooks folderIn Shop'NCook installation folder, there is a folder "Cookbooks", that contains the all the cookbooks or links to them. The cookbooks contained in this folder, or whose link is contained in it are displayed in the Cookbooks menu of the Recipes tab.How To...
How to open a cookbookGo first to the recipe panel by selecting the Recipes tab. To open a cookbook, select its name in the Cookbooks menu. If its name is not listed, you need to add it to the list. This can be done in two ways. First, you can chose "Open Other..." in the Cookbooks menu. A menu will open and you can locate the cookbook on your computer. A link to this cookbook will be created in the Cookbooks folder in the installation directory. Alternatively, you can add it by moving it to the Cookbooks folder. If you choose this option, make sure that there isn't another file with the same name before extension, or you may be unable to access some of your cookbooks. Select then "Update Cookbook List" in the Cookbooks menu to display its name in the menu.How to open a cookbook automatically at startOpen the Preferences panel and select in the General tab the cookbook at start. Save the Preferences.How to create a new cookbookTo create a new cookbook, go to the recipe panel by selecting the Recipes tab. Select "Create Cookbook" in the Cookbooks menu to create a new empty cookbook. You will be prompted to input the name of the new cookbook. This name will then be added to the Cookbooks menu and the new cookbook will be opened. The new cookbook will be unlocked by default. You can then add new recipes, either by importing them, creating them from scratch, or moving them from another cookbook.How to rename a cookbookTo rename a cookbook, select "Rename Cookbook" in the Cookbooks menu of the Recipes panel. You will be prompted to input a new name for the cookbook.How to delete a cookbookTo delete a cookbook, open it and select "Delete Cookbook" in the Cookbooks menu of the Recipes panel. Caution: all the recipes it contains will be also destroyed!How to move or copy recipes between cookbooksSelect the cookbook that contain the recipes you want to copy or move in the Cookbooks menu. Select the recipes on the list on the left. To select several consecutive recipes, click on the first one, then press the shift key while clicking on the last one. Non-consecutive recipes can be selected by clicking on the CTRL key on Windows, command key on Mac. Note that locked cookbooks can have restrictions on the number of recipes that can be selected at one time. In the Cookbooks menu, select "Copy to..." or "Move to..." and the name of the destination cookbook. Note that you can only copy or move a recipe to a cookbook that is unlocked. The copy function can also be used to duplicate recipes within a cookbook.How to add cookbook and source informationSelect "Edit Info" in the Cookbooks menu of the Recipes panel to add or edit cookbook and source information. You will be prompted to input the cookbook information. You can input a description of the cookbook's content, source, author or copyright or any other information there. This information can be viewed by selecting "Show Info" in the Cookbooks menu. Below the cookbook information, you are prompted to input the source information. The information typed there will be automatically added to every recipes exported. If you leave this field empty, the exported recipes will not be modified.How to lock, unlock and export cookbooksLocking: To lock a cookbook, open it and select "Lock" in the Cookbooks menu. Note that the main cookbook cannot be locked. A dialog opens where you can choose to protect the locked cookbook with a password and limit the access to the recipes to only one at a time. Warning: if you protect the cookbook with a password, you will need it to unlock it or change the access preferences. Make sure to remember the password if you choose this option!Exporting: To share a cookbook, you can export it by selecting "Export Cookbook" in the Cookbooks menu. It will be saved in the directory of your choice in locked cookbook format with the extension ".scb". It can be conveniently shared in this format with other Shop'NCook users. Unlocking: To unlock a cookbook, select "Unlock" in the Cookbooks menu. If it is password protected, you will be prompted to input it. How to organize a cookbook in chaptersSelect a cookbook in the Cookbooks menu. Nore that the cookbook "main" cannot be organized in chapters. Make sure that the selected cookbook is not locked. Select "Chapter mode" in the Tools menu. If no chapters have yet been defined, the recipe list will be empty. Select then "Edit Chapters" in the Tools menu. The chapter editor will be displayed. You can organize there the recipes of the cookbook in chapters. You create new chapters by clicking on the "+" button below the chapter list. The chapters can be renames by double-clicking on them and typing their new names. The recipes within each chapter can be organized in the desired order by using the up and down arrow keys or by drag & drop. Click on OK to save the modifications.Copyright Rufenacht Innovative 2005.
